Friends of Harrington Parks & Recreation

The mission of the organization is to support and promote Harrington Parks and Recreation for the benefit of the citizens of Harrington and outlying areas, to include to Kent and Sussex County Delaware. Further, the group will support and cooperate with the Harrington Parks and Recreation in developing parks and recreation services and facilities; to establish and maintain funds to accomplish these goals.
The Friends of Harrington Parks and Recreation meet at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Recreation Center. Everyone is welcome.
Program Registrations: Registrations can be taken during our regular business hours, Mondays through Thursdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon. You may also use the drop box to register any evening; HPR is open from 5:30-7 p.m. Harrington Parks & Recreation is located at 114 East Liberty Street, Harrington. Harrington Parks & Rectreation would like to say thank you to St. Bernadettes Church in Harrington for use of part of their property for the Community Garden. Their support of HPR’s programs and other activities has been endless.

Community Garden

Harrington is having a Community Garden this summer. All vegetables are free to everyone who comes out and helps in this worthwhile cause. If you are interested in working to help maintain the garden, call HPR at 398-7975.
Dodgeball Mania

HPR is having a Dodgeball Tournament beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 25 at W.T. Chipman Middle School. Each team may have up to eight participants, but only six can be on the court at one time. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs. The Championship game is best two out of three. Participants must be 16 years of age. Fee: $150 per team. Contact HPR at 398-7975 for more information.

Learn a lifetime sport – tennis. Now accepting registrations for the tennis program. This is offered for children ages 7-13 years old. Classes will be held for four weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning the end May at the Lake Forest High School tennis courts. The cost is $50 per person. If you need to order a racket, there is an additional $15 charge. Registration deadline is May 18. A $10 late fee will be applied after the deadline.

Golf Tournament

Come and join the annual Golf Tournament on Friday, May 15. Registration is underway for foursomes for that day. Registration is limited to the first 25 teams. The tournament will be held at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course in Magnolia. The cost is $300 per foursome and the deadline for entry is May 8. Fee includes golf, cart, open range and luncheon. Pop Warner Football and Cheer Signups

Pop Warner Football and Cheer Signups will be on Saturday, April 18 from 5-7 p.m. at Parks and Recreation. Bring your child’s birth certificate and a photo ID. Fill out the Harrington Parks and Recreation registration form and the Pop Warner Contract, Consent Form, Permission and Waiver Form, and Medical History Form found on the Henlopen Pop Warner website: Beginning July 1, 2015, a copy of your physical, the fourth marking period report card and payment will be needed.

Ladies Fit Class 

Learn new dance steps and have fun while you get fit! These classes are designed for women to work their bodies in a fun way. Classes are held on Thursdays from 7-7:45 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 10-10:45 a.m. The cost is $5 per class.

Heritage Day Vendors

Harrington Heritage Day is Saturday, Aug. 29. Vendor registrations are underway. Forms can be found online at or stop by the office during business hours.

Adult Fitness

The Harrington Parks & Recreation Center will be open for any adult wishing to get out of the elements and walk. Treadmills, universal weights, nautilus, elliptical, stair steppers and exercise bikes are available for use. Adults will be able to use the center Monday through Friday, while HPR is open. All participants must be 18 years of age or older and sign a registration form and provide valid ID before using fitness room or gym. Registration is $50 for individuals or $75 per couple.
