MILFORD – Every step counts for Jordan Flaherty of Milton as he thinks about the upcoming 7th Annual Delaware Hospice 5K and Family Fun Walk on Wednesday, July 8th. For the past six years, Jordan has raised close to $1,000 for Delaware Hospice.

Jordan is just a normal teenager riding his bike to and from his summer job at a local produce stand. However, Jordan along the way stops to talk with neighbors and friends about his involvement with Delaware Hospice. He asks if they know about the services and programs that the only non-profit hospice agency in the state provides the Milton community.

Some say “yes” while others reply “no.” Depending on the answer, Jordan will elaborate his inquiry. Jordan enjoys taking the time to fully explain all of the facets of Delaware Hospice and how he became involved with the organization.

For the past six years, Jordan has raised money for the programs at Delaware Hospice through his involvement in the Delaware Hospice 5K and Family Fun Walk. He looks forward to running and improving his time each year since he has held 2nd or 3rd place in his age group every year. “I like being able to get in shape for the upcoming soccer season while raising money and awareness for a good cause,” commented Jordan.

“We are always looking for young runners to participate in our 5K Run and Family Fun Walk,” stated Peggy Dolby, Assistant Director of Development. “They just bring excitement and energy to the event.”

Jordan and his family became involved with Delaware Hospice through the encouragement of his grandmother, a Delaware Hospice Community Education Liaison, Luanne Holland and his aunt Barbie McDaniel who is also a Physician Representative. In the fall, Jordan will begin his sophomore year at Delmarva Christian Academy were he plays soccer, basketball, and baseball.
