La Red opens health center in northern Sussex County

La Red Health Center Milford

La Red’s newest health center is located in Milford and provides primary care services for families and individuals.

The new facility, largely made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, officially opened in August 2015, making it the third clinical site the organization has established in Sussex County since 2012.

The three centers are dedicated to serving the diverse health care needs of Sussex County’s growing population, which suffers on average from higher mortality rates from cancer, diabetes, coronary heart disease, infant mortality and HIV/AIDS.

That Sussex County needs accessible quality health care services is underscored by the fact that it is federally designated as a Medically Underserved Area, with a shortage of health care professionals, including dentists and mental health service providers.

The 6,534-square-foot-facility in Milford will fill a void in northern Sussex County and ensure greater access to high quality health care for people in Milford, Lincoln, Slaughter Beach, Ellendale, Milton and the surrounding areas.

The new Milford site is expected to reach about 1,400 new patients. “The Milford site will leverage our established health service delivery expertise, infrastructure, and collaborative relationships, and also be fully integrated with our other two health care centers in Georgetown and Seaford,” says Brian Olson, La Red’s CEO.

Initially, local staff includes an internal medicine physician, a pediatrician, a licensed practical nurse, and a receptionist, and LRHC is currently recruiting for a behavioral health consultant.

The clinical staff includes Dr. Seema Tayal, a broadly experienced physician who completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York City. Dr. Tayal also holds an MBA in Health Care Management and Finance from the University of Massachusetts.

Also on staff is Dr. Nieves Zaldivar, a graduate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Zaldivar comes to La Red from Nemours Pediatric Clinics in Milford and Seaford where she was a staff pediatrician.

For uninsured patients, the center offers a sliding fee scale based on income and family size. Medicare, and Medicaid are accepted, as are most commercial insurance plans (including those available through the Delaware Marketplace).
