Arrest made in Harrington armed robbery, another suspect still wanted

HARRINGTON – Shaiheme D. Edwards, 18 of Clarks Corner Apartments, was arrested by the Harrington Police Department Aug. 9 in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in July.

According to officers, Edwards was involved in the armed robbery which took place at Bridle Bit Liquors on South DuPont Highway in Harrington July 29. He and another suspect wore dark clothing during the incident and had their faces covered while confronting store employees. One of the suspects displayed a handgun.  The suspects then fled with alcohol and undisclosed amount of cash.

Officers searched the area and conducted a K-9 track but were unable to locate the suspects.  Officers then continued to investigate the robbery and obtained information linking Edwards to the robbery.

On Aug. 9, police went to Edwards’ residence with a  search warrant and located him hiding under a bed in a second floor bedroom.  Police then took him into custody without incident.

Police also executed another search warrant at another residence in Harrington and took a second person of interest into custody. That person was questioned and later released without being charged.

Edwards was taken to the Harrington Police Department, questioned and then processed.  Edwards was charged with robbery in the first degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, conspiracy in the second degree, offensive touching and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of $62,500 secured bail.  Police are still attempting to identify the second suspect.
