Felton man arrested for fifth DUI in Harrington

HARRINGTON – Christopher J. Russum, 31 of the 1600 block of Upper King Rd. in Felton, was arrested Thursday, May 18 by the Harrington Police Department for a fifth offense DUI.

While on patrol at 6:43 p.m., officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Liberty Plaza Shopping center for a report of a vehicle accident.  Police also were advised that a vehicle had hit two parked cars and the operator of the vehicle that hit the parked cars was intoxicated.  Police arrived on scene and located Russum. After speaking to witnesses, police determined he was the driver and the only occupant of the vehicle.

After completing standard field sobriety tests, Russum was taken into custody and transported to the Harrington Police Department. During a search of the vehicle, police also located drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.  While at the Harrington Police Department, he submitted to an intoxilyzer test and was processed.  A computer check revealed he had four previous DUI convictions dating back to 2003 and his driver’s license was currently suspended.

He was charged with fifth offense of driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended or revoked and several other traffic violations.  He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of $6,203 secured bond.
