HARRINGTON — The season of gift giving didn’t end on Christmas Day at Harrington Raceway and Casino this year.

The holiday spirit was extended into Boxing Day (Dec. 26) as Harrington Raceway and Casino and its customers teamed up for a wildly successful food drive throughout the day that netted more than 12,000 cans of food to benefit the Food Bank of Delaware.

“We’d like to thank our loyal patrons for their support with the food drive,” said Harrington Raceway and Casino Chief Executive Officer Patricia Key. “Without the overwhelming support of our customers, this event would not have been possible.”

Harrington Raceway and Casino, in conjunction with the Delaware State Fair through its Mid-Del Foundation, continued its commitmentt to the community in 2014 with donations exceeding $90,000 to local non-profit and civic organizations.

The Food Bank of Delaware provides foods to Delawareans in need and facilitates long-term solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty through community education and advocacy.

Boxing Day, while celebrated in many parts of the world and is a national holiday in Canada, is traditionally celebrated on December 26, when tradesmen and servants would receive gifts from their employers.
