Harrington enacts juvenile curfew

After much debate, a town hall meeting and two public hearings, the Harrington City Council adopted a curfew for those 16 years of age and younger. Please review the entire Ordinance 16-03 for detailed information on the new curfew. Some of the highlights include the following:

  • The curfew applies to juveniles 16 years old and younger
  • The hours of the curfew are 10:00 pm to 6:00 a.m.
  • There are several exceptions to the curfew (please see Ordinance 16-03)
  • The curfew is set to expire  on July 31, 2016

The fines for violating the juvenile curfew are as follows:

  • First offense by a parent $5
  • Second offense by a parent $15
  • Third and all subsequent offenses by a parent $25
  • Personnel costs $35 per hour
  • Fist offense by an operator $100
  • Second offense by an operator $150
  • Third and all subsequent offenses by an operator $300
  • Parent knowingly provided false information $100
