Harrington man arrested after domestic dispute

HARRINGTON – Damarius T. Turnage, 29 of Clarks Corner Apartments in Harrington, was arrested May 2 by the Harrington Police Department after police responded to a domestic dispute in progress.

While on patrol at 8:58 a.m., police were called to an apartment in Clarks Corner Apartments for a report of physical domestic that had just occurred.  Police arrived on scene and contacted the adult female victim who reported to police that she was assaulted by Turnage. The victim also reported that she is pregnant, according to Captain Kenny Brode.

Police determined that the victim and Turnage were both inside the residence and an argument ensued.  During the argument, Turnage assaulted the victim by punching her in the face and took the victim’s phone, preventing the victim from calling the police.  Also during the argument, he damaged other property belonging to the victim.  There was also a 2-year-old child in the residence during the altercation.

Prior to police arriving on scene, Turnage fled the residence on foot but was located by responding officers and taken into custody without incident.  A computer check revealed that Turnage had active capias out of Justice of the Peace Court 14 and Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.  He was transported to the Harrington Police Department for processing.

He was charged with assault in the second degree, endangering the welfare of a child, malicious interference with emergency communications, criminal mischief under $1,000.  He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 for the criminal charges and the capias.  He was given $7,500 unsecured bond for the criminal charges and a $1,500 secured bond for the capias.  He was then committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of bond.
