Harrington man arrested for assault

matthew-a-laytonHARRINGTON – The Harrington Police Department arrested Matthew A. Layton, 28 of the 2100 Block of Brownsville Rd., Sept. 19 for assault related to an incident that occurred a day earlier.

While on patrol, police were contacted by Milford Memorial Hospital about a victim who allegedly came to the hospital for treatment from and assault that occurred at Stones Bar located in the first block of Mechanic St.

Police contacted the victim who alleged he was punched several times in the face by Layton.  Police also determined the victim’s girlfriend was also assaulted by Layton. Both victims sustained non-life threatening facial injuries.

Police obtained warrants for Layton. He was later contacted and turned himself into the Harrington Police Department for processing.  Layton was charged with assault in the second degree and offensive touching.  He was arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was released on $5,000 unsecured bond.
