Harrington man arrested for assault

HARRINGTON – Michael E. Moffett, 60 of the 300 Block of Harrington Ave. in Harrington, was arrested after police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in progress.

While on patrol, police responded to his residence after receiving a call about an assault that occurred as a result of a domestic dispute.

When police arrived, they contacted the 54-year-old male victim and found him to be suffering from facial injuries.  He was transported to a local hospital for treatment for the non-life threatening facial injuries.

Police took Moffett into custody without incident.  Police determined that he and the victim became involved in a verbal altercation which escalated into a physical altercation.  During the altercation, Moffett assaulted the male victim by punching him in the face and breaking his glasses.  There was also an adult female present during the incident. Moffett allegedly began yelling and cursing at her.

Moffett was transported to the Harrington Police Department for processing.  He was charged with assault in the third degree, criminal mischief under $1,000 and disorderly conduct.  He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of $1,000 secured bond.
