Rehoboth Beach teen, NY man arrested for drugs in Harrington

HARRINGTON – A Rehoboth Beach teen and a New York man were arrested May 24 on drug charges by the Harrington Police Department.

While on patrol, police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers located four suspects inside and smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

During a vehicle search, officers noticed the 16-year-old from Rehoboth Beach had a pill bottle containing an unknown liquid when she got out of the vehicle. They also found that the name on the bottle had been removed.

Upon further investigation, the liquid was found to be a cough syrup prescribed to someone else. The juvenile and other occupants allegedly mixed the cough syrup with soda before drinking the mixture.

As police continued to search the vehicle, they located two bulk containers in the trunk containing codeine cough syrup. Police took  the driver, Julious O. Braitwaite, 19 of Brooklyn, NY, into custody.  The other passengers were later released without being charged.

Police transported both Braitwaite and the juvenile suspect back to the Harrington Police Department for processing.

The juvenile was charged with possession or consumption of a controlled substance with an aggravating factor and released to a family member pending a future court appearance.

Braitwaite was charged with possession or consumption of a controlled substance with an aggravating factor and motor vehicle shall have two lighted head lamps.  He was arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of $1,050 secured bond.
