At 1:52 a.m., police were patrolling South DuPont Hwy when an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Fairgrounds Rd. Police then observed the vehicle enter a cross over on South DuPont Hwy. and begin traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of South DuPont Hwy.
Police were able to stop the vehicle and identify the driver as Dopirak. While contacting Dopirak, police smelled an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. He was taken into custody after standard field sobriety tests were administered. He was transported to the Harrington Police Department for processing.
According to Captain Kenny Brode, Dopirak then refused to submit to the intoxilyzer test and a search warrant was obtained for a blood draw. He was transported to Milford Memorial Hospital for the blood draw and back to the police department afterwards.
A computer check revealed that Dopirak had six previous driving under the influence convictions and that he was prohibited from operating any vehicles without an ignition interlock device.
He was charged with his seventh offense driving under the influence charge along with operating a motor vehicle in violation of restrictions, driving wrong way on a one-way road and failing to obey a traffic control device. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of secured bond.
