Townsend man arrested for Harrington vehicle theft

The Harrington Police Department arrested 33-year-old Mark Diehl of Townsend after investigating the theft of a vehicle from the parking lot of Walgreens in Harrington Feb. 10.

Upon responding to the site, police found the victim and his parked his vehicle. He reported that he had gone inside the store while the vehicle continued to run.  When the victim came back outside, the vehicle was missing.

Police were able to review surveillance footage and observed a subject walk across the parking lot, enter the vehicle and flee.  Delaware State Police located the vehicle in the Townsend area near Diehl’s residence Feb. 17.  Police contacted Diehl at his residence and took him into custody.

Police then identified Diehl as the suspect who stole the vehicle and transported him to the Harrington Police Department for processing.  He was charged with one count of theft of a motor vehicle.  He was arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was released on $1,000 unsecured bond.
