Troopers investigate fatal single vehicle crash west of Houston

HOUSTON, Del. – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle crash that killed one person.

The incident occurred around 7:08 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7 as Eric J. Armstrong, 24 of Lincoln, was operating a 1998 Pontiac Montana eastbound on Williamsville Road approaching a moderate left curve just east of Hogtown Road.

For unknown reasons, Mr. Armstrong lost control of the Pontiac and began driving off the south side of the roadway. When he overcorrected, the car went into the westbound lanes and then back off the south side of the road where is struck a ditch and overturned several times before coming to a stop on the passenger’s side.

Mr. Armstrong was the lone occupant and was transported by EMS to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. It is unknown at this time if Armstrong was properly restrained or ejected from the vehicle.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in this case. Williamsville Road between Hogtown Road and Hunting Quarter Road was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
