New garbage company to serve city of Harrington residents

HARRINGTON — A new company will soon take over trash and recycling services for residents in the city of Harrington, according to officials.

Trash and recycling services were bid out earlier this year with Charlie’s Waste Service earning the contract as the lowest bidder. As a result, there will be a small decrease int he trash rate for this fiscal year.

Recycling will continue to be collected every other Thursday while trash will be collected every Thursday.

Can Collection — Republic Services

The last day of trash and recycling collection from the current provider, Republic Services, will be June 29. City officials ask residents to not put any trash or recycling in the cans from Republic Services after June 29.

A third party provider will be collecting the cans after they are emptied. Please leave trash and recycling cans from Republic Services at the curb, or usual trash pick-up point. Can collectors will not enter personal yards to remove the cans; they must be at the curb. It may take a few days to remove all the cans.

Start of service by Charlie’s Waste Services

Harrington residents will be receiving new trash and recycling cans from Charlie’s starting the week of June 19. The first trash collection from Charlie’s will occur Friday, July 7 (pick-up is delayed a day because of the Fourth of July; normal collection is on Thursdays).

The new trash pick-up services will be via an automated collection truck. Cans must be at the curb to be emptied. City officials ask residents to not lean objects against cans or place them too close to fences, trees, mailboxes or vehicles.
