Hannah Fox caps Lake soccer career with All-State honors

FELTON – Recent Lake Forest High School graduate Hannah Fox capped her high school soccer career with All-State honors.

For the third consecutive season, she has been named to the girls’ soccer All-State Second Team.

“It means a lot,” she said of the honor. “I’ve done it since sophomore year and it really means a lot to me to be recognized.”

The team’s leading scorer served as a strong leader for Lake during her four-year high school soccer career.

“It was so great, probably the best experience I could have had,” she said of her time playing for Lake Forest. “Since my freshman year, we’ve all worked really great together.”

Lake finished the 2017 regular season with a 7-7 record, earning the No. 10 seed in the DIAA state tournament. It marked the fourth straight tournament appearance, meaning Fox had never missed the tournament during her high school career.

“It says a lot about our team,” she said of the tournament streak. “We work well together, communicate with each other and our coach really pushes us to play well.”

A 1-0 first-round loss to Delaware Military Academy didn’t take away from the strong campaign Fox and her teammates turned in this spring.

In 15 games, Fox scored 18 goals, including a pair of hat tricks against Smyrna (Tuesday, March 28) and Laurel (Thursday, April 20).

She added another three-goal performance in a 10-0 scrimmage victory over MOT Charter Monday, May 8. Including the May scrimmage, Fox put up 21 goals this season for the Lady Spartans.

Now that she’s officially a graduate of Lake Forest High School, she plans to attend the University of Delaware and would like to become a speech pathologist once she completes her degree.

Including Fox, nine Henlopen Conference players made the Division II All-State squads this season.
